Likely, you’ve already seen the Grand Canyon; most people have. Even if you haven’t been here in person, you’ve surely seen iconic pictures of the vistas from the south rim. As inspiring as these amazing images are, they reveal only the very tip of an iceberg of unimaginable depth. They’re really just a wide angle overview of the rugged desert diversity that lies below the rim; a diversity so vast and detailed that you really can’t appreciate all the Grand Canyon has to offer without trekking down into it yourself. There you’ll experience a new private world around every corner that just isn’t discernible from the top. That’s why this place has been a pilgrimage for all kinds of people from time immemorial … and why you need to experience it for yourself.

But the canyon alone is just half the fun! Using Flagstaff as a base camp allows you to experience the local culture in a way that will have you viewing northern Arizona as much more than just a national park destination. You’ll find an old west town along historic Route 66 that still boasts original 1800s architecture. They also have delightfully walkable neighborhoods teeming with coffee shops, breweries and quaint restaurants. And with luxury houses available just outside of town, Flagstaff could easily be an entire trip on its own. As a bonus, a day trip to Sedona is easily within reach so I think you’ll find - like I did - that one time here will leave you wanting more!
